Parish House Addition

Addition/Renovation of Parish House

St. Philip’s Church required more space in its Parish Hall in order to accommodate its active and growing congregation. The solution was to expand an existing second-floor banquet hall space to double its current size.

Located just north of the historic St. Philip’s Church building, the Parish Hall building fronts two streets and forms the northern border of the church’s National Register campus. This context required sensitivity in the addition’s design approach.

The design draws from the existing Parish Hall and the adjacent church building. The new addition’s gable form follows that of the Parish Hall and will create an expansive interior space. Large windows with operable shutters will provide abundant natural light, connection to the exterior, and views to the church. Located in a flood zone, the ground floor will be used as a covered open-air Garden Room for church activities and opens to a lawn facing the church.
