Dayfield Park Commercial
Two Speculative Commercial BuildingsThe client requested a pair of “sister” commercial buildings to be built adjacent to one another in the Nexton community’s Dayfield Park office park. The resulting designs share similar language and materials but have subtle changes depending on each building’s site relationship.
The primary forms are derived from the simple gable-roofed buildings common throughout the Lowcountry, but in this case the roof slopes and bearing heights are altered to create forms that are decidedly new. Each building follows a strict 3′-4″ grid to provide a unifying rhythm below the varied roof line above.
The designs also take cues from the other buildings in Dayfield Park: dark metal siding and roofs, tall slender windows, clean detailing, and angular elements.
A lighter brick color is introduced to provide more material variety and a bit of lightness to the context. Areas of recessed brick and raised metal window frames help create richness at the pedestrian level.
